Miguel Garcia-Garibay

Graduate students help us positively change the world. They bring fresh perspectives that help drive our important work forward and are some of the most passionate people that I know. We could not do what we do without them.

Miguel A. García-Garibay, Dean, Division of Physical Sciences

Our division boasts over 10 thousand current graduate student alumni working, teaching, and conducting research all over the world. From climate science to quantum technology. Understanding the origins of our universe and developing novel health solutions, they are on the front lines of advancing scientific discovery.

But the importance of financial security cannot be understated. Sixty-percent of graduate students in America face financial hardship and a full forty percent experience food or housing insecurity. Not only is this morally unacceptable, but it also directly impacts the ability of these dedicated students to do their best work.

Our ambitious campaign to fund all physical sciences graduate students through pooled funding for two years of their time at UCLA is unprecedented in American academia. As Dean, I am committed to reinvest available funds from UCLA faculty inventions to match donations between $5,000 and $100,000 while funds last – making our research more sustainable and equitable. Will you stand with us, the division of physical sciences, and our students, and make a gift today?

Frequently Asked Questions

across the Division of UCLA Physical Sciences. It is managed at the division level and
administered to the various departments within Physical Sciences.

This means if you make a gift between $5,000 – 100,000, the UCLA Division of Physical
Sciences will use funds from intellectual property developed by our faculty and
students to make a donation of equal value to your donation. Division matching will
continue while funds last.

  • Qualifying gifts of $5,000 to $100,000 to the Physical Sciences Graduate
