Nathan Palmer, a first generation College student, transferred to UCLA in the Fall of 2023 from Citrus College, where he earned his Associates in Biology & Physics. He graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2025 and is now a rising second year graduate student in the Chemistry PhD program at UCLA. Throughout his College career he gained lab experience at Oak Crest Institute of Science, CSUF, City of Hope, and most recently at UCLA as an undergraduate researcher in the Yi Tang group, studying the biosynthesis of Macrocidin, a natural herbicide.
He is also passionate for teaching and consistently worked as a student tutor for Organic & General Chemistry, Calculus, and Physics at Citrus College, and Bakersfield College. Nathan is now a graduate student in the Stuart Conway group, where he studies the design and synthesis of small molecule inhibitors for metal-dependent enzymes. Along the way, he has maintained his passion for jazz, playing alto sax and flute in various groups, including the Blue Note Swing Orchestra, which lead him to a tour across central Europe in 2023.
